Bayelsa Solar Streetlight Thieves Zapped To Death

Ogobiri, Bayelsa State – A shocking incident occurred over the weekend when two persons attempting to steal solar streetlights in Ogobiri community, Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, were electrocuted.

According to eyewitnesses, the thieves had already loosened four streetlight poles when they met their demise while attempting to remove the fifth pole. The pole fell on nearby high-tension wires, electrocuting the thieves.

One of the thieves was severely burnt and died instantly, while the other was burnt beyond recognition, leaving only ashes. The ashes were still at the scene of the incident, resembling a human form.

The incident occurred near the New Site of the Niger Delta University and Ogobiri roundabout. The fallen streetlight poles were still lined up beside the road, while one of the bodies was taken to the mortuary.

Stealing of streetlights has been a rampant crime in the area, and residents hope the incident will serve as a deterrent.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Musa Mohammed, confirmed that he had not received the report.
