Africa is not yet on track to meet global affordable and clean energy targets. Based on SE4 All, an estimated 565 million people in Africa still lack access to electricity, while 900 million lack clean cooking solutions. Most of these people live in rural areas, according to Hivos.
In Nigeria alone, an estimated 85 million people lack access to electricity, and 176 million people lack clean cooking fuels or technologies. Renewable energy is one way to bridge Nigeria’s energy supply gap and drive sustainable development, especially for disadvantaged groups.
